Growing up in South Australia until I was 23 &living in three different towns within this wonderful state, we didn’t need toexplore too much! We decided to head straight to Cactus Beach Campsite nearPenong, famous for its shark attacks & great waves, not that people likeadvertising either of those points. The Eyre Peninsula is truly beautiful in its own rugged, wild way. I lived in Streaky Bay for 2 years& loved it, if you want to eat amazing fresh oysters, scallops & blueswimmer crabs, then you’ve come to the right place. Its nice to see that there’s a few more food options thanwhen I lived here, although the pub still has a hearty counter meal & Ithankfully caught up with some old friends, which was just lovely. From here it was almost Christmas &not being home for Christmas for years & years we decided to skip the restof SA, only stopping in Adelaide extremely briefly & also one night in theFlinders Ranges & getting to Mt Gambier to see the family. Mount Gambier is a pretty town, withthe Blue Lake, Valley Lakes & Sink Holes, surrounded by farmland, &timbers. There is a new controversialtown hall with a green wall, which I think looks fantastic, the town is lookingso much more funky & has some new great organic & food shops. Phoenixjust loved the library, which was by far the best public library I’ve everseen! We spent New Years in spectacular Robe of which I also lived for 2 years,it’s a beautiful town, with beautiful beaches, great food & wine. Traveling to SA really brought backmemories of growing up & it was just wonderful seeing old friends &family again. xxx

Avoiding the mice plagues we powered on over theNullabor to get to SA as quickly as possible, apparently it was the worst mice plague in 12 years, we heard a few crazy stories of people getting bombarded by mice in the middle of the night. Thankfullyno mice in the van, or the car for the whole journey, YAY! Unfortunately the weather was pretty ordinary whilst traveling so windyconditions & cloudy days made for poor photography opportunities. I think this journey would be best done in whale season, we'd just missed it, but the Great Australian Bight is still beautiful with its souring cliffs merely dropping off into the deep blue.

Esperance, WOW! What can I say…. truly breathtaking & remarkable. Its colder here but that’s about itsonly downfall. The scenery isunlike any other, whitest of white sand, red high souring cliffs, bluest ofblue ocean. The Cape Le GrandNational Park is another one of those MUST DO’s!!!! We were camping at Lucky Bay, there’s water, hot solarshowers & shady camp spots. All the beaches are as beautiful as each other, Lucky Bay is the‘whitest beach in the world’. We also visited the very new Stonehenge inEsperence, a replica of the original Stonehenge, made totally to scale out ofsolid granite, the large blocks are 30 tonne each & it aligns with theSolice.

While the fires were burning in Margs, we werecamping at Parry Beach which is West of Denmark. Fires were also furiously burning 15kms North of Denmark& another fire just above us in the hills. What a crazy fews days it was for everyone, it must havebeen quite scary for all concerned! We were thankfully perfectly safe where we were camping, bottom of ahill, basicly on the beach. ParryBeach is an awesome camp spot, hot solar showers, great shady trees, &beautiful beaches nearby, its also just a short drive from beautiful Denmark& Walpole. Driving aroundthese parts is awe-inspiring, the trees are phenomenal! So huge and towering above you, theyfeel like they have been there forever, with their beaming energy glowing allaround. If you have never been tothis area, you need to get there. We have explored this amazing area before, so we did not go to the treetop walk or to the tingle tree, instead we stuck to the coast! West Cape Howe however I have neverbeen too, this place is another one of those wild untouched coastlines, crazyhard core 4WD tracks, high hills that the para-gliders & hand-gliders dreamof! Shelley Beach is captivating!

Back In Dunsborough…

for a couple of days at least! We had a few jobs to complete here,& I’m terribly sorry to all the people I did not get a chance to catch upwith! I miss all my friendsdearly! But we had so many jobs todo & we really want to get to Tassi while its warm! I did manage to photograph my beautifulfriend Alice, & her amazing son Tom, Alice is 20 weeks pregnant & sinceI won’t be around to photograph her in her later pregnancy I took a couplenow. There's also a pic of Phoenix I'd like to share, this was taken by my wonderful friend Narlea who is an amazing photographer based in Dunsborough, I just edited the photograph myself. I look forward to seeingeveryone again in a year or so.xxx

Coronation Beach & Lancelin…

Heading down south, we stayed at Coronation Beach,just above Geraldton, the campsite was lovely, with new toilets etc, & thekiting not too bad for Fabe either, there were heaps of wind surfers out. I didn’t really take too many pictureshere, none worth showing you guys anyway! Lancelin was just lovely, Fabian had a kite surfing competition on atWedge Island, which he did extremely well in, & since last years trip toWedge I decided to stay in Lancelin for the day with Phoenix. We were staying at the Lancelin CaravanPark, which is full of old caravans, good fun to wander around, I love the oldvans, they have so much character!

Turtle Rock…

Wow! What a place, we headed back to Warroora Station for a week staying atthe other end of the station on 14 mile camp. We totally got blown out over the last two days, however westill enjoyed our time here. Weheaded to 5 finger reef & turtle rock, both of which, represent their names& needless to say we were definitely not disappointed. What an amazing array of sealife NorthWest WA has. We once again saw somany tutles, I & Phoenix also were in awe! A downer to the last two days was that we found two deadturtles a day apart, so sad! Thereare many reasons that this may be, partly could be natural causes & anotherreason could be that a natural food source for the turtles is jellyfish whichstrangely enough ‘plastic’ looks like when it floats in the ocean, yet againanother reason for every human to be more careful with their rubbish &minimise their waste products that they consume.

The tourist mecca of Coral Bay is truly beautiful even though its extremelytouristy & full of people, I still like it. I love the fact that you can snorkel right off the beach,that massive snapper come up to you in a foot of water & that Phoenix canplay safely in the amazingly clear, clean, shallow water & absolutely feelssafe & ecstatic. Remember totake all your supplies to this place though, everything is expensive! A potato costs $2.50 & a brocolli$4 & you have to pay for water too! Most of the above pictures were taken at Turquoise Bay in the Ningaloo Marine Park, so amazing, if you get a chance to snorkel there, do so! xxx

Well after a beautiful 5 weeks of living inparadise in the Cape Range NP, it was time to move on. Off to the civilisation of Coral Bayfor two nights, to do the washing, & have a long shower, via Exmouth to getmuch needed supplies. We’ve hadthe most beautiful time here, Fabe got loads of wind for kite surfing &caught so much fish, I got to go for amazing walks & swims & Phoenixnow knows the words fish, turtle, boat, roo, & shark! He has learned to walk & is keepingme extremely busy as his first few steps soon turned into almost a run. Lucky we had caught up with Fabiansparents Maxine & Leo & family friends Gwen & Trevor, they havehelped loads to look after him while I could take a few pics, so thanks amillion guys, you all rock!

Cape Range National Park…

…what can I say about this place, so far in my travels, this is my favourite place on earth, except for home sweet home (Yallingup/Dunsborough). Although there’s a few more people than Warroora, I absolutely love the whole entire eco-system here! At the moment, the turtles are buzzing, breeding, laying eggs, it truly is such a unique place, when we were here in June the whale sharks were on their yearly migration. Our little rubber duckie boat (Black Mumba) is in the water & ready for action whenever we feel the need, my little hunter gatherer has caught us an abundance of fish, including a 20kg mackeral & a coral trout… needless to say we have been eating very well, the Mackie fed the whole camp here at Osprey Bay! On the boat the other day, in a space of 45 minutes, we saw a Dugong & her calf…WOW!, turtles, 3 whales, manta rays, the offshore reef has so much amazing coral & sea life. I woke the other morning to see two huge turtles breeding, needless to say, I took a few photographs, they are so huge, they only come in to breed after 2o years, & on another beach further towards Exmouth, there were literally hundreds of turtles swimming up & down the coast, simply beautiful! xxx

Warroora Station…

…Wow, this place is absolutely stunning, there’s a little something for everyone here! It’s truly amazing. White shimmering sand, roaring red cliffs, pristine azure water, sheltered bays, pounding shoring’s, offshore reefs, whales dancing, sharks circling, fish biting, turtles gliding, lazy days on the beach, glassy mornings, windy afternoons, big swells, campfire cookups, star filled nights, & not a soul around. Mmmm what to do now, snorkel, fish, surf? I think I might go for a swim & have a little afternoon nap xxx

The Long Road North….

…such a long drive, however, no matter how many times I have travelled this road it never ceases to amaze me. This is certainly one interesting trek! Lonely travellers with their dogs as companions; grey nomads taking their time; or young families & couples just simply enjoying life; all are getting out of the matrix whether for a short time or perhaps a rather long time & experiencing this wide expanse of land that I call home. The road though long, is certainly not boring, the contrasts of colours are wonderful – blood red dirt; pink, purple, white, yellow wild flowers; green lush grasses; bluest of blue open skies; the longest road trains that you will ever see; a vast array of animals including ospreys, wedge tail eagles, emus, kangaroos, sheep, cattle that are as large as our land cruiser (no joke), wild horses, foxes, rabbits, HUGE goannas – there’s also unfortunately way too much road kill! There’s so much driving plenty of time for thinking, thinking, thinking or perhaps read a book, while the ipod shuffles or listen to a audio book, oh & forgot to mention to take photographs! Not too much map reading these days, we have recently purchased a Tom Tom, which is perfect for the cities, oh my goodness why did I not get one of these earlier? Xxx
